HistoryThe 2-day Ticino of Orienteering was born in 1977 on the initiative of Franco Devittori, then chairman of the Group CO Aget Lugano, who thought up a race over 2 days to entice the competitors of intern Switzerland (north of the Alps) to undertake the long travel to Ticino (southern Switzerland). The first edition was held in the woods of Tesserete.
After the first editions, in order to meet the growing success in participation, the group CO Aget Lugano joined for the organization of the 2-day, in turn, with other cantonal orienteering groups. In the list of the long series of editions, there are some special ones: that of 1988, Taverne, when we reached for the first time the 500 competitors mark, then the five years as a national race, prized with 2 stars by the Swiss National Federation: in 1993 in Bedigliora, with a record participation of 1600 competitors, in 1996 in Carona and Monte Generoso, with the transport, from Riva S. Vitale, on boat, train and rack railway, in 1999, 2000 and 2004, all in areas of great tourist interest. In 1997 the 2-day broadened to a poker competition, designed in collaboration with Asco Lugano and Gold Savosa, who gathered in Tesserete, Lugano and Cademario, on the extended holiday of the Ascension, an impressive 650 competitors.
During the first 20 years of life, the 2-day affirmed itself as the classic opening race of the season, the Milan-San Remo of the Swiss Orienteering.
In the hall of fame there are all the names of the winners.
